About Classes & Events

The 7th annual Fermentation Fest is upon us!  We have more classes than ever to choose from and we’re thrilled with the international flavor of this year’s ferments.

Register online for over 60 classes, hands-on workshops, tastings, lectures, and demonstrations, taught by renowned foragers, fermenters, artists, chocolatiers, poets, bakers, and brewers.

FEATURED FERMENTERS For each weekend of the Fest we have two very special Featured Fermenters. For the first weekend we have founder of Fermentation on Wheels – Tara Whitsitt and Maestro Eduardo Ángeles, one of Mexico’s master mezcal distillers. The ‘Kombucha Mumma’ – Hannah Crum will be a Featured Fermenter during the second weekend as well as the 30 year veteran of the cheese industry – Sara Hill.

FEATURED FERMENTS – This year we are offering the opportunity to focus your fermentation on specific topics. The first weekend we are focusing on fermentation process occurring in Mexico and the second weekend there is a focus on dairy fermenting.

LOCATIONS – Most classes and events are held locally in Reedsburg, except where noted. Most locations are walkable and provide an opportunity to explore our town, visit small unique businesses and see the hidden places – above storefront shops, in church basements, and in buildings in transition.  2017 Class Locations.

CITY PARK FOOD CHAIN  – In between classes, make sure you check out the City Park Food Chain in downtown Reedsburg, a marketplace of food, art, beer and ideas!

REGISTRATION – All class and event registration takes place online. We advise registering early, as many of our events sell out! The only exception to this is our Fermentation 101 drop-in classes.

SCHOLARSHIPS – We have a limited number of 50% scholarships available for students who cannot afford the full price of the class. To apply for a scholarship, you will need to submit an online application here.

VOLUNTEER – If you are interested in being part of the behind-the-scenes team that makes these events happen – click here.

DONATE – You can make a donation to Fermentation Fest online or donate specifically to the scholarship fund when registering for your class.
