Gimme Shelter is a process-oriented building project by Bryce Dwyer, Chase Johnson, Matt Joynt, and Vanessa Smith. With intermittent assistance from others, the four unskilled builders created a free-standing 250 sq. ft. shelter using 100 shipping pallets from Hillcrest Wood Products, a nearby Amish pallet manufacturer. The project is intended to be a learning process that addresses the struggle to reconcile the skills and values associated with rural and urban forms of knowledge. The builders look for the value in both while cultivating a conversation between.
