Beth Persche, Community Mosaic (detail), 2016
Beth Persche (Baraboo, WI) has been creating mosaics for the past 15 years and has training in traditional mosaic techniques focusing on mortar, ceramics and tile. Over the years, she has created many wall installations, as well as free-form mosaics, in which she builds the base for the mosaic out of wire and concrete. Inspired by the natural world, these creations often reflect the flora and fauna of the area.
Fermentation Fest Community Mosaic Project (Map Stop No.1) This 14 foot tall mosaic archway inspired by church’s in Mexico during saint’s days, was created by 4 Sauk County communities, under the leadership of Beth Persche. The base materials of the mosaic are often used during fermentation, such as beans, corn, wine corks and bottle caps. Over 200 people of all ages participated in the mosaics creation during local festivals each community working on their own section of the work. All sections will come together in Reedsburg to welcome everyone to Fermentation Fest.
