Gut Reaction – Microbes, Diet and Health

Oct 6, 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

How do gut microbes and diet work together to affect our health? This UW scientist explains how the communities of microbes that inhabit our gut (gut microbiome) interact with our diets to keep us both healthy and sick.

Federico Rey is Assistant Professor of Bacteriology at UW Madison. His research goal is to dissect diet by microbiota interactions that impact human health, so that therapeutic/preventive dietary recommendations can be made based on the metabolic potential of a subject’s microbiome. Thus, in principle, the gut microbiota can be targeted through diet to promote health.
