The Wormfarm Institute announced today that Nina Macheel has been hired in the newly created role of Managing Director. She will coordinate the organization’s 6th annual Fermentation Fest and other Wormfarm staffing, development and communications activities. She is a Wisconsin native and graduate of the University of Wisconsin who has returned to her home state after raising her family in Park City, Utah. Her experience in project management, marketing communications, and not-for-profit fundraising and event coordination spans organizations including the American Cancer Society, U.S. Ski Team Educational Foundation, and a number of technology companies, from start-up to major corporations. Most recently she served as Executive Director of an artist residency in Washington State.
“We are thrilled to bring Nina on board,” said Donna Neuwirth, Wormfarm Institute Executive Director and co-founder with Jay Salinas. “Our signature event, the Fermentation Fest based in Reedsburg, Wis., is in a phase of dramatic growth. We are fortunate to have found someone of Nina’s caliber whose skills will help us further strengthen and expand our programs and participation levels.”
“It is an honor to be a part of Wormfarm Institute’s initiatives celebrating the convergence of art and agricultural in rural Wisconsin,” Nina said, adding that she first became aware of Wormfarm Institute three years ago at a conference in California. “This organization, and the community of Reedsburg, are nationally acknowledged for leadership in the celebration of food, farming, and fermentation, and I look forward to contributing to its further growth and recognition.”
“A few years ago it would have been hard to believe a Managing Director would be necessary. Now it feels like Nina has arrived just in time to help us with the challenges and opportunities that come with success,” said Jay Salinas. “She knows what we’re about, she’s got serious chops and I look forward to working with her.”
