Volunteer

Calling all fermentation, farming, and art enthusiasts! As Fermentation Fest approaches, we are looking for volunteers to help us with the exciting events we have scheduled.  We need help introducing speakers, setting up rooms for demonstrations, installing art, putting up signs and much more. Read below, see if you’re interested, and contact us at volunteer@fermentationfest.com indicating your area of interest.

Fermentation Fest:

  • Spread the word
    • Time Commitment: Varies, takes place August – September
    • Help us promote the Fest – put up posters, distribute flyers and event guides in your area
  • Street Team
    • Time commitment 2-4 hrs, takes place in late September
    • Liven up the Main Street for the Fest by putting up banners, signs and balloons.
  • Class Host
    • Time commitment: 4 hours or less
    • Arrive 1 hour prior to help with set-up, check in attendees, introduce speaker (read script), stay for the class, distribute and collect evaluation forms, and help with clean-up.
  • Class Location Sign Coordinator
    • Time commitment: ~ 2 hours.
    • Set up and take down the street signs in front of each class location for each class day.
  • Class Food Coordinator
    • Time Commitment: ~3-4 hrs.
    • Gather and prepare fresh and fermented food and shop for plates, cups, napkins and silverware. Prepare small samples and deliver to class location. Pick-up leftovers and cooler afterward.
  • Classroom Set-up
    • Time Commitment: ~ 2-3 hrs.
    • Help ready the spaces for classes – includes loading, unloading chairs and tables, cleaning the space, and other random tasks.

 

Farm/Art DTour Set-up: 9/19-10/2

  • Art Installations
    • Time Commitment: 3 + hours (dates are above)
    • We need both skilled and unskilled workers to help with art installations – everything from using a post-hole digger to crocheting plastic leaves to sewing on a corn crib.
  • Signage
    • Time Commitment: ~3 hrs 9/29-10/2
    • Get a sneak peek of the tour and help put up signs along the route so folks don’t get lost! You will be paired with someone with knowledge of the route.
  • Transport
    • Time Commitment: Varies
    • Help transport the makings of a DTour in your truck, flat-bed trailer or hay wagon. Anyone willing to lend their flatbed trailer or hay wagon would also be appreciated!

 

Farm/Art DTour: 10/4-10/13

  • Pasture Performances
    • Time Commitment: ~ 2 hrs October 4, 5, 11 and 12
    • Introduce the performers before each set, greet drivers and help direct them where to park
  • Scouts
    • Time Commitment: Varies
    • Adopt a section of the route and check on it periodically during the DTour for missing signs, litter, or anything amiss.
  • D-installation: 10/14-10/19
    • Time Commitment: Varies
    • Help take down signs, art installations, and clean up
